Lets talk about Growth

A few years ago I was asked to take over the solo section of the Women on Track program.

At the time I was honored and scared shitless. I’ve never been a natural leader. I actually kind of suck at it. I lack a level of confidence it takes to get things done.

I was told to build a committee of 5 or so.

First thing I thought was I’ve gotta get someone smart that me to help. My first call: Tamra Hunt Krystinik.

Then Linda suggested Emily Renee Brown I didn’t know her but I thought what the hell she’s gotta be smarter than me. So I reached out to her and I’m so glad I did as I’ve come to be lucky enough to call her my friend.

The first year we did the social let’s be honest it wasn’t great. We had our social along side the banquet. I had to leave the social momentarily to go see Bartek earn his driver if eminence. Our turn out was low but that was fine, we weren’t prepared for a large turn out. We learned a lot that year.

After that I said we need more help. I thought Lisa Berry and RaceMom Tracey Burckhard would be awesome additions. Then I was like what happened to Jordan Towns? How do we get her back? Then Tamra and I collectively decided that Jojo Corrales-Kean needed to be a part of the committee and she tried really hard to say no, she joined us anyway. Then Sarah Miles said something really smart on the sandbox and I think Tamra and I attacked her in DMs and said we need you.

We grew exponentially after that. We started coming up with ideas the Pay it Forward Program, Ladies Bump Class, and the Mentorship Program and the Driver Development Program. We bit off a lot.

That’s when we added Tia Cover, Karen Thomas Cindy Duncan and Tara Shapowal-Lau to the crew. We grew even more exponentially this year and it was humbling. We had over 140 ladies sign up for the social, we ran out of food, bingo cards and corsages. All of which we planned extra for. So many ladies showed up that weren’t registered. Which is wonderful. We learned from it and it has been noted for next year.

I hope the program continues to grow.
