Hilary’s guide to going viral
I’ve had a lot of my friends ask me, “Can you help me go viral?” So here’s Hilary’s guide to going viral. Here’s how I managed to get 137M views…
1.) post content that you can stay consistent with. I’ve kind of always wanted to go viral in some capacity. If you’ve been friends with me a long time, you know that I’ve tried the YouTube game a lot.
At one point I tried being a makeup YouTuber. I don’t even wear make up. I was just doing what was going viral at the time. What sent me viral was recording a task I was going to do anyway.
2.) That leads me into number 2. Be true to yourself. I tried trending topics, make up, fashion, gaming and art. The most true to myself in there was art but it was something I couldn’t follow rule number 1 with. It was so time consuming there was no way I could be consistent with my content.
3.) Rule number 3 is going to sound cliche but be yourself. If you have some struggles in your video or you do something that looks kind of cringy to you, LEAVE IT IN THE VIDEO people want to see you being human not the perfect version of you that no one will ever actually see.
4.) Do something mildly wrong in the video. Now you’re wondering “Hilary why on earth would I do that?” The answer is; because people cannot wait to tell you how wrong you are. So, the video keeps playing as they type their comment. The comment spikes the engagement up. The higher engagement the more the algorithm feeds the content to your feed.
5.) Reply to all comments nicely, even your haters. You who knows maybe you’ll convert someone to a fan just by being kind as educative rather than ignoring or being mean. Oh! And every time they comment the video is playing, every time you reply the video is playing, then the come back to the video to view your reply, then they type some long reply about how wrong you are (the whole time the video is playing) and so on and so forth.
6.) If you’re telling a story do something while you’re telling the story to keep the viewer engaged. So, if you’re telling a story about the time you went to Starbucks and a lion jumped out from behind the counter to steal the barista from you while you were ordering. No one is going to get to the punchline if you’re just sitting in front of the camera telling the story. Make a cup of coffee while you’re telling this story.
7.) Use your personal Facebook profile not your business profile. Facebook cannot wait to suppress your views from your business page because they want you to pay to run an ad rather than sent your content off to the algorithm. On a personal profile they are getting paid off of your content so they’re more likely to push it. Unfortunately, Facebook profiles don’t qualify for monetization at this time, but there’s value in doing this to get more eyes on your finished product.
8.) idk man of all else fails make a pokey goth tire and get lucky.
Before you follow any of these steps though, make sure you’re ready to endure at least 10% of your comments to be ripping you to shreds. If they really bad just delete the comments, those level of trolls don’t deserve your time.
