Spring Nats with my own car again
I went into the ProSolo knowing that the car wasn’t going to be able to keep up at all with us running on the XA index. I’m wayyyyy down on power for everything the index was set for, especially with a launch and a 200 ft straight away at the start.
My only goal this weekend was to have a good time and make sure I got the car handling well.
Mission accomplished there! The car handles great! It rotates enough to get out of its own way and the aero pushes the grip back up so you can carry sooooo much mid corner speed it’s kinda dumb!
I’ve had a lot of people messaging and texting asking about my DNS’ for the weekend
First session the stub axle popped out of the diff. Easy fix.
Everything was amazing in the afternoon!
Now for this mornings DNS’ I need to give a little back story.
Several years ago many of you know I had a hysterectomy. My doctor only prescribed me estrogen replacement therapy. I’ve been battling some stuff health wise so my doctor prescribed me progesterone replacement therapy earlier this month.
Turns out there’s a side effect of developing new allergies. Tuesday morning I woke up my face was swollen I was prescribed prednisone and the doctor only gave me a couple days worth to calm it down and told me I’d be fine.
Last night I had a really bad flare up again, my tongue swelled up and my jaw felt a ton of pressure so I took a prednisone and went to bed.
This morning I woke up with the same symptoms so I made the difficult adult decision to toss the car back together as quickly as possible, take it to grid for Carmen then leave and go to Urgent Care.
I left Carmen with a text saying I set the pressures low, the car is ready to go, now pick up the time it will take to beat me, good luck!
As I was in the waiting room at the Urgent Care I was so excited to see that she managed to do just that!
And then the nurse called me back, I sat in the room and listened to the doctors talk shit about patients and by name. Then walked into the room and told me I had oral thrush and I’ll be fine. Prescribed me a mouth wash. I told them their walls are paper thin and they should be careful because they wouldn’t want a HIPPA violation.
Left the Urgent Care feeling just absolutely icky about the situation. As I was waiting for my prescription at Walgreens I shot Charles Kim a text for a second opinion and he told me to go to a different Urgent Care and I’m SO glad that I did.
The doctor at the second Urgent Care Walked in and asked me if I was okay. By this point my tongue was so swollen I couldn’t keep my mouth closed fully. I told her I could breathe and she said she’s going to up the prednisone to a taper and I’m going to take it multiple times a day and that I need to take benedryl every 3 hours and Zyrtec every 24. This diagnosis and treatment seemed more fit to what I was experiencing.
Went to Walgreens again. Got everything I needed took the first dosage of everything and sat in the parking lot of Walgreens for 20 mins waiting for the meds to kick in and slowly I started feeling the inflammation go down.
Headed back to the event site and by the time I got there I was feeling normal again.
This is really scary I’ve never had an allergic reaction this bad in my life.
Tonight again, right at about 3 hour mark since the last benedryl I could feel the swelling coming in again and my lungs started to hurt. Took some liquid benedryl and it started to clear up fairly quickly.
So as soon as I can on Tuesday morning I’m scheduling an appointment with an allergist.
I unfortunately only got 4/12 runs but the 4 I had were an absolute hoot! The car is so fun and I can’t thank my partners enough for making this all possible. BimmerWorld has been a tremendous help since I reached out to them last fall about the crazy idea to build an ice racing car that I could also autocross!
JXB Performance for all sorts of odds and ends help almost daily
Hawk Performance for the stopping power OPTIMA Batteries for the battery Red Line Synthetic Oil for all my fluids
Motion Control Suspension for shocks that eat these bumps out here for breakfast
You all are literally amazing!!
And I’m SO proud of Carmen Rowlands for her super fast runs this morning! Now let’s go have some fun in the tour!!
Special shoutout to Layne Lindemann and Tim Oyer for the help with the allergies!
And thanks Bartek Borowski and Sam Strano for driving the BMW and helping to dial it in!
Lincoln Tour
First autox trophy for this ol girl! I managed to take second place in XA in the tour. Third open trophy, first in my own car. That’s pretty rad!
It was a pleasure to share the car with so many people and I think my car took the most competition runs of the weekend.
24 Runs
6 Drivers
4 Classes
1 Trophy
Many Smiles
Lincoln Tour long post.
Same as the pro I really had no expectations going into it. I just want to have fun with my car.
Day one I walked once the night before… turns out Seroquel + Benedryl = sleep like a rock
Big thanks to Karen Thomas for waking me up so I had time to get the car ready before our runs
I have to give a huge shout out to Carmen Rowlands she took to the car SO well and was an extremely awesome codriver. It was like we had been driving together for many many years. We didn’t talk about who would do what between runs but we managed to do everything we needed to do without tripping over each other. We seem to drive very similarly so we were able to talk about the course extremely well and bounce ideas off of each other. I think we made each other faster.
Day one I coned away a time 1.3 off the lead leaving me 1.8 back going into day two.
This was a deficit I knew I could not over come so the only choice I had was to.. enjoy my car. Which seems to be working well for me.
Took the car back to paddock and heard Tim Brueske had an engine failure so drove back up to grid and tossed him the keys so he could finish his runs then towed the AM back to paddock with the BMW.
Then Jeff Cashmore needed a car on stand by for 5th heat. So of course I let him pilot it when the Lotus broke.
Day 2.
Walking once worked well for day one so I decided to only walk once day 2. Seemed like it didn’t hurt me at all to only walk once.
I had the car in grid for second heat and I heard Tim Oyer cross the finish line in the ZX2 with some harsh rod knock. So I meandered over to see if him and Andriy Sytyashenko wanted the car highly illegal for FSP car so the car finished off the FSP runs and went back to heat 2 grid.
My first run I was able to run a time just over a tenth off of Johnathan’s which was SUPER exciting. Until I heard about the 5 cones I had no idea I hit.
Luckily I was able to clean it up and go a little bit faster but I had nothing for Johnathan’s 62.955.
I would like to give Carmen a huge shout out for her last run! She dropped a ton of time and looked flawless doing it!
Then for 4th heat the car was back in AMod grid. Let’s be honest Tim probably could have found a better car for AMod but I was happy he wanted to drive mine! He managed to get much faster in the car day two I was stoked!
For the first time ever I finished in a trophy position in open with my own car and I got to experience it with some wonderful friends. I couldn’t have asked for a better spring nationals. Okay maybe I could have done without the allergic reaction...
I have to say this years spring nats felt very special, it was very surreal.
